Green Jays Finish Weekend 1–2, Growth & Resilience on Display

JACKSON, TN – Jackson State Community College's Green Jays battled through a demanding weekend slate, earning one hard-fought victory while dropping two tightly contested matches. Though the team finished 1–2, Head Coach Alexis Kapales emphasized the promise and toughness her group displayed.

Game 1 – at Bevill State C.C.

Bevill State 3, Jackson State 1 (25–18, 15–25, 23–25, 16–25)
Jackson State opened the weekend with a competitive four-set battle.

• Raegan Essex powered the attack with 14 kills, 3 aces, and 17.5 points.

• Teagan Reed added 10 kills and 3 aces for 14 points.

• As a team, the Green Jays tallied 12 block assists, showcasing a strong presence at the net.

Game 2 – at Southwest Mississippi C.C.

Jackson State 3, Southwest Mississippi 0 (25–21, 25–18, 25–22)
The Green Jays bounced back with a commanding sweep in their second match of the day.

• Teagan Reed notched 10 kills (.261 hitting) and 12 total points.

• Raegan Essex chipped in 7 kills (.389 hitting) and 11 points.

• Jackson State dominated statistically with 28 assists, 12 aces, 6 block assists, and steady defensive play.

Game 3 – at Mississippi Gulf Coast C.C.

Mississippi Gulf Coast 3, Jackson State 1 (25–21, 25–19, 15–25, 25–18)
In the weekend finale, the Green Jays fought hard but came up short in another four-set match.

• Teagan Reed led all scorers with 16 kills and 18 points.

• Kalli Maclin added 10 kills, while Chloe Williams directed the offense with 44 assists.

• Defensively, Jackson State tallied 68 digs and 8 block assists, battling until the final point.

"This weekend tested us in the best way," said Head Coach Alexis Kapales. "We were pushed in every match, and that's how you grow early in the season. The sweep over Southwest Mississippi showed what we're capable of when we execute. Now the goal is to bring that same consistency every time we step on the court."
